AI visibility for scientific instrument and lab equipment companies

Lab managers, PIs and QC leads now ask AI assistants to explain techniques, compare instruments and suggest suppliers. We make sure your products are found, your specs are right, and you are in the shortlist.

The questions your buyers ask AI

Instrument purchases start long before a quote request. Typical questions we test look like this:

  • “Which benchtop SEMs are suitable for a university shared facility, and what do they cost?”
  • “Best particle size analyser for battery slurries under 1 micron?”
  • “Compare ICP-OES and ICP-MS for trace metals in pharmaceutical QC.”
  • “Who sells a glovebox with oxygen and moisture below 1 ppm in the UK?”
  • “Is [your model] compatible with 21 CFR Part 11 software?”

The answers name a handful of brands, quote specifications and link to a few sources. Your sales team never sees that conversation.

What usually goes wrong for instrument makers

Specs locked in PDFs and configurators

Datasheets, brochures and application notes often live only as PDFs, or behind a configurator that needs JavaScript. Assistants then quote numbers from wherever they can read them, which is often not you.

Distributors and old listings speak for you

Regional distributors, marketplaces and directories often rank above the manufacturer for model names. When their pages are out of date, assistants repeat discontinued models, old prices and wrong specifications.

Applications are missing

Buyers ask by application (“for battery research”, “for pharma QC”), not by model number. If your site doesn't connect products to applications in plain text, you won't be matched to those questions.

Regional confusion

Who sells and services the instrument in the US, the UK or Germany? If that isn't stated clearly, assistants guess, or send the buyer to a competitor with a visible local presence.

No easy next step

When a buyer does click through from an AI answer, they need a clear route to a quote, a demo or a price range. Many instrument sites bury it.

What we do

  • Test the questions your buyers ask on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI, repeatedly, and map which sources the answers cite
  • Find every place assistants get your specifications, compatibility or availability wrong
  • Turn the key facts from your datasheets into clear, readable pages, approved by your product team
  • Fix crawler, CDN and indexing issues that keep AI search away from your site
  • Work through the distributor, directory and trade-media pages that shape answers in your category
  • Re-test with the same questions, against control questions, so you can see what changed

We never invent specifications. Every fact we publish comes from your own data and is approved by you before it goes live.

Why us

We run Nano Store, an online store for research materials and lab supplies. Our day job involves product data, technical buyers and the search engines and assistants they use. We read a spec sheet the way your customers do.

For independence reasons we don't take on ongoing work for companies that compete directly with Nano Store's own product range. See what that covers.
